(Nov.2019) The port of Tarrafal, on the island of São Nicolau, in Cabo Verde, will benefit from significant improvements, being the Development Design underway in order to ensure its expansion and modernization.

The “green island”, as it is also known, has a small port that does not guarantee safety conditions at the roughest sea states, nor is it prepared to receive the new Ro-Ro ships that interconnect the islands of Cabo Verdean archipelago.

To solve the problem, ENAPOR, a Cabo Verdean port authority, awarded CONSULMAR the preparation of the Development Design for the expansion and modernization of the port of Tarrafal.

The project thus respects the extension of the current breakwater, doubling its length, the construction of two Ro-Ro ramps, the creation of a new embankment area and the deepening of the port basin.

The new port service conditions will allow calling larger vessels, including small and medium-sized cruise ships, and Ro-Ro vessels that already operate on other islands in maritime passenger transport.
