Project for the Rehabilitation of Beaches at Quarteira

The Environmental Impact Study for the construction of the fishing port of Quarteira recommended as mitigation measures, the rehabilitation of beaches situated up and down drift of the port. The urban beach area of Quarteira is situated to the east of the Port, divided by into six cells of about 250 m by six groynes. These beaches were extremely “thin”, limiting the area available for bathing. For their rehabilitation CONSULMAR designed the beach nourishment using dredged sand resulting from either the construction of the port and dredged offshore. The work included the study of the wave conditions and the alluvial system, the design and specification of beach nourishment.
