Ponta Delgada is the capital of the Azores, located on the south coast of the island of S. Miguel. The studies involved the design of the coastal road linking the city centre to the boundary of the municipality, and involved widening of the existing municipal road, which at some locations presents a motorway profile, built on reclaimed landfill. The new road has two traffic lanes in each direction (motorway profile), with berms and sidewalks for pedestrian circulation and a bicycle path on the ocean side.
