PORTO DE LEIXÕES PREPARES FOR THE NEW CONTAINER

(Apr.2017)
Following a public tender launched by the Port of Leixões Administration, CONSULMAR will carry out the design of the Extension of the Exterior Breakwater of that port.

This project aims to allow the construction of a new container terminal in the port, capable of receiving ships with 300m length, 40m mouth and 13.5m draft. About 60% of the container ships ordered are already of these dimensions whereas a decade ago the market was dominated by orders of ships of much smaller dimensions.

The awarded services also include the Prior Study and the Environmental Impact Study, as well as the maritime accessibility of port.

Although the Prior Study may recommend adjustments to the project requirements, it is foreseen that the outer breakwater will be extended by about 300m.
