SOYO NAVAL BASE (ANGOLA) IN CONSTRUCTION WORKS

(Apr. 2021) The Naval Base of Soyo, Zaire Province, located in an area of great geostrategic importance – the Congo River basin, is undergoing requalification construction works.
The contract was awarded to the Mota-Engil Group by the Ministry of Defense of Angola, with financing guaranteed by the Portuguese State, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
In total, the contract provides for an investment of 270 million euros for the naval base modernization and aims to “create conditions for this port infrastructure to play a more relevant role as a base of logistical support to the merchant navy, taking into account its location geostrategic in the Congo River basin”, points out the resolution of the Portuguese Council of Ministers
The design of the modernization project for Soyo’s naval facilities is authored by CONSULMAR, which is part of a consortium of engineering consultants. The intervention includes the dredging of the maritime access channel, the construction of the mooring pier and the restoration of buildings and other infrastructure of the Soyo naval base.
