Project for the Rehabilitation of the Marina Beach – Vilamoura
The Environmental Impact Study for the construction of the fishing port of Quarteira recommended as mitigation measures, the rehabilitation of beaches situated up and downdrift of the port.
The Marina Beach, located between the fishing port and the marina of Vilamoura, was divided into six cells of about 180 m by five 150 m long groynes and presented a reduced average width. For its rehabilitation CONSULMAR studied a number of alternative solutions, involving the removal of a variable number of groynes, combined with variable volumes of beach nourishment. The work included the study of the wave conditions and the alluvial system, the analysis of the equilibrium configurations of the beach and the design of the selected solution.
