In the 90s, CONSULMAR developed for the Angolan authorities, and with funding from the Portuguese State, a number of studies covering the entire Angolan coast. The aim was to provide the Angolan Government with a fundamental structuring tool for future options in terms of environment and economy, in particular with regard to anticipating problems and to investments in infrastructure for transport, fishing or tourism.

This work included the collection and organization of scattered data, aerial photography coverage of the entire coastline, as well as the characterization of hydrography, geology, coastal morphology, climate, tides, currents and wave action.

A diagnosis of the major problems and an assessment of the behaviour of the existing protection structures were also undertaken.
