Sumbe Shoreline, Angola
The coastline bordering the city of Sumbe (formerly Novo Redondo) was subject to intense erosion, which caused even ruin of the coastal road and threatened to spread to the built up area. Under the Technical Assistance provided to the Ministry of Construction, CONSULMAR studied the problem, designed the solution and supervised the Works, which consisted in the beach nourishment with sand dredged from the estuary of the River Cambongo (Ngunza) and the construction of a field of seven 80 m long groins, 240 m apart, and the planting of rows of Casuarinas in the new beach.
